The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) operates the electric grid and manages the wholesale power market for most of Texas, under oversight from the [[Public Utility Commission]] and the [[Texas Legislature]]. ## Bodies ### Board of Directors Selects ERCOT's CEO, sets goals and policy, approves the budget and market rules. Twelve seats: eight independent directors (appointed by the state's ERCOT Board Selection Committee) and four ex officio members — the ERCOT CEO, the Public Counsel of the Office of Public Utility Counsel, the PUCT Chair, and a PUCT Commissioner the Chair designates.
